How Great Is Our God: An Exploration of God’s Majesty
Introduction
As Christians, we always talk about how great God is. But do we really understand the depth and breadth of His greatness? In this article, we will explore the different aspects of God’s majesty and try to gain a deeper understanding of how great our God truly is.
Aspect 1: Creator of the Universe
One of the most obvious aspects of God’s greatness is His role as the Creator of the universe. He spoke, and everything came into existence. He formed the mountains, shaped the oceans, and breathed life into living creatures. This indescribable power and creativity is evidence of His greatness and demands our awe and reverence.
Furthermore, the fact that God sustains the universe and keeps everything in balance is another testament to His greatness. The universe follows a set of laws that allow it to function harmoniously, and God is behind all of it.
As we ponder these aspects of God’s greatness, it should give us a sense of humility and wonder as we consider how small we are in comparison to the vastness of the universe He created.
Aspect 2: Saviour of the World
God’s greatness is not just limited to His role as Creator. He is also the Saviour of the world, sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for our sins. This act of love and sacrifice is the ultimate display of His greatness and demonstrates His desire to reconcile us to Himself.
Furthermore, God’s redemption plan is so comprehensive and far-reaching that it extends beyond humanity. The Bible says that through Christ, God is reconciling all things to Himself, including things in heaven and on earth (Colossians 1:19-20). This means that God’s greatness extends far beyond our individual lives and reaches into the deepest corners of the universe.
As we contemplate the depth of God’s love and the scope of His redemption plan, it should spur us on to share the good news with others and to live lives that reflect the greatness of the God we serve.
Aspect 3: Holy and Righteous
In addition to being our Creator and Saviour, God is also holy and righteous. He is perfect in all His ways and cannot tolerate sin. This aspect of His greatness demands our reverence and respect, as we realise that our sinful nature is completely at odds with His holiness.
However, God’s holiness does not make Him distant or unapproachable. On the contrary, He invites us into a relationship with Him through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ. When we acknowledge our sin and turn to Him in repentance, He forgives us and cleanses us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).
As we reflect on God’s holiness and righteousness, it should lead us to pursue a life of obedience and purity, knowing that we serve a holy God who desires our sanctification.
Conclusion
As we conclude this exploration of God’s greatness, we are reminded of the words of the psalmist: “Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable” (Psalm 145:3). Indeed, no matter how much we learn, we can never fully comprehend the depth and breadth of God’s greatness.
But that should not stop us from trying. As we seek to understand and experience God’s greatness, we will find ourselves growing in reverence and love for Him. And as we live our lives in accordance with His will, we will reflect His greatness to the world around us, bringing glory to His name.
